Today St Florian's Gate (Brama Floriańska) is one of the symbols of the city, one that welcomes tourists arriving in Kraków. Since the Middle Ages St Florian's was the main of the seven gates leading into the city. It was entrusted to the care of the Guild of Furriers.

The Florian gate was built in 1307, and it was named after one of Krakows guardian saints, Saint Florian. The Florian gate was were the royal way that led to the Wawel Castle started, and from there it led towards the Main Market Square, just as you are able to walk today as you enter into Krakow through the Florian Gate.
